Restoration Work We Take On

Every hull below has passed through the same steps we use on yours, from the first sound of the planking to the last coat of varnish.

The Method

How a Restoration Goes

Each stage is signed off before the next begins, so you always know where your boat stands.

01

Talk It Through

A first hour on what she is, what you want from her, and what sea she is for.
Long teak planks are stacked in a timber rack inside a dim boatyard storage bay, where low sunlight from an opening beside the water illuminates the wood grain and casts striped shadows across the concrete floor.

02

Survey

We sound the planking, check the frames and lift the floorboards to see what lies under.
A man on the wooden deck of a sailboat adjusts rigging beside the mast at dusk, with ropes in the foreground and a forested shoreline beneath the fading sky.

03

Timber and Build

Timber replaced, fastened and caulked, shown to you at every stage.
A silhouetted person stands inside the curved, ribbed wooden hull of a large boat under construction, with warm light falling across the timber and strips of blue evening sky visible above.

04

Hand Over

She leaves the yard with her papers, a maintenance sheet and a plan for the seasons.

Questions Owners Ask

How long does a restoration take?

It depends on the hull. A sound boat with minor planking work may take a season; a full rebuild can run longer. We give you a date once we've surveyed her.

Do you give quotes before work starts?

Yes. We survey the hull, list what needs replacing, and quote in writing. Nothing gets cut until you've approved it.

Will you keep the original wood?

Where it's sound, yes. We only replace planks, frames or deck beams that are rotten or split beyond saving, and we note every change.

Can you restore a boat I've only inherited or bought as a wreck?

Often, yes. Bring us what you have, even a hull on a trailer, and we'll tell you honestly whether she's worth bringing back.

Do you handle sails, rigging and varnish too?

We do the hull, deck, brightwork and most rigging. Sailmaking we send out to a loft we trust, and we'll say so up front.

How do I look after her once she's back in the water?

Keep her out of the sun when not sailing, flush out salt, and re-varnish brightwork each spring. Send her back to us any winter you want a second pair of eyes.
